DR. KIRAN C. PATEL INSTITUTE FOR GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION (KPIGME)
PGY-1 Residency Training Grant
The objective of the Residency Training Grant is for Osteopathic Medical Schools to support eligible Hospitals/Institutions who are applying for new PGY-1 Medical Residency positions with the Accredited Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) by providing financial support in the development stage. This grant will also support ACGME accredited residency programs in good standing who are applying to increase their complement. The funds are to be used to support development costs for the program.
The Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) as of 2023 is requiring new Osteopathic Medical schools seeking accreditation to dedicate funds to support the development and expansion of GME PGY-1 residency positions. Through this grant, the partnerships that will be created will assist many of these medical schools with this standard and will help address the shortage in physicians in rural and underserved areas.
By the end of Year 5, our partnered medical schools will provide support in developing new residency programs by committing financial support to expanding graduate medical education for approximately three hundred (300) PGY-1 medical residents in the United States.
